NHTSA to Conduct Electric Vehicle Safety Symposium

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announces that it will be hosting a one-day symposium on May 18, Friday. The conference will tackle safety issues related to lithium-ion or Li-ion batteries that are being used in electric vehicles.

Several representatives from the auto and battery making industries, along with government panel participants, are expected to join the symposium.

The symposium aims to gather key stakeholders in an event to share knowledge and information on the status of safety activities that can be linked to the use of Li-ion batteries in vehicles, the NHTSA said in a statement in its official website.

The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the West Building Atrium of the U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters situated at New Jersey Avenue, SE, Washington, DC.

No attendance fee is required, but early registration is recommended since slots are limited. As a requirement, participants need to bring a government-issued photo ID for security purposes.

Issues regarding Li-ion battery’s safety became more public since November2011 when a Chevy Volt caught fire a few weeks after the NHTSA conducted a crash test. Earlier this year, the agency regulator conducted an investigation that declared electric vehicles are no more of a fire risk.

However, just earlier this month, another standard battery pack at a General Motor (GM) plant situated at Michigan burst into fire after an extreme stress testing. GM said that the said accident involved a battery that was being tested under high pressure. The fire reportedly left six workers seriously injured with $5 million worth of damages.

Now, to lessen the risk of fire after an electric vehicle was involved in a car accident, the NHTSA is doing everything possible to inform the public about road safety and everything that people has to know. Even a personal injury lawyer Los Angeles here is hoping for further similar public awareness programs to come so that people wouldn’t be like lost in the middle of nowhere due to insufficient knowledge.

A driver who crashed his car and damaged several high-end vehicles in a luxury car shop in Los Angeles on May 16 fled from the scene and left a dying woman in the alley.

According to authorities, the accident happened at around 3:30 in the morning, Wednesday in 1800 block of South La Cienega Boulevard. Initial investigation revealed that a Lincoln Town Car reportedly being used as a fancy taxi crashed into the glass doors of the Specialty Car Craft building, damaging several luxury vehicles that are owned by celebrities.

The crash resulted in a broken window frame crashing down onto a yellow Ferrari allegedly owned by Kobe Bryant since it was identical to Kobe’s yellow Ferrari. People’s speculations became firm upon seeing a Los Angeles Lakers sticker on the back of its windshield and another sticker that reads as “Baller24”, the number apparently corresponds to the said basketball player’s NBA jersey number.

Several damaged luxury vehicles included a Lamborghini and a very rare TVR Tuscan S, which is in fact, the only one in the country.

Although there are a lot of speculations regarding who the celebrity owners of the damaged high-end cars were, the luxury car shop owner remains to be mute, keeping the identity of the cars’ owners secret. The only information that the shop owner disclosed is the total amount of damages that the accident incurred, which amounted to $200,000.

Specialty Car Craft is a well known luxury car shop specializing in very high-end and exotic cars such as Lotus cars, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

Meanwhile, while the shop employees were shocked by the incident, the driver quickly fled the scene on foot, leaving a dying woman at the back seat of his car. Witnesses said that the man managed to pull the severely injured woman and left her bleeding on the sidewalk before finally fleeing away.

Authorities transported the woman to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with a broken pelvis, jaw and leg. Meanwhile, witnesses described the car’s driver to police as a white man in his mid-thirties. Reports said that the woman was initially in critical condition but is now stable.

At present, the identity of the said hit-and-run driver was already determined by the authorities but will not yet be revealed until they have found a strong lead regarding the man’s whereabouts.

Just thinking of the huge amount of damages that the man will probably be held liable for will definitely make him to go the farthest mile just to escape from his liabilities.

Under the California Tort Law or the state’s personal injury law, any negligent act of a person which caused damages or injuries to other can be a ground to raise legal action.

In the said car crash, the woman may file personal injury charges against the driver to recover suitable compensation. In such event, a Los Angeles car accident attorney can provide a great help in proving a claim.

The 38-year-old porn star, Jenna Jameson, was arrested Friday morning after being involved in a vehicle accident resulting from her drunk driving.

According to reports, Jameson ran her vehicle into a light pole in Westminster, California at around 1:30 in the morning last May 25.

Witnesses said that Jameson seems to be intoxicated at the time of the accident. Thus, police officers conducted a field sobriety test on her. After confirming that Jameson was indeed driving under the influence (DUI), authorities charged and arrested the iconic porn star accordingly.

Jameson was cited for her DUI but six hours after she was booked, she was released upon paying her bail. However, she was still required to appear in court for her DUI arrest.

The authorities confirmed that Jameson sustained minor injuries from the said incident. However, she refused to accept medical attention to treat her injuries.

At present, no comments were yet released by Jameson but according to her spokesperson, she was well at home.

DUI penalties vary from state to state but generally, they can result into drivers’ license suspension ranging from 90 days to 5 years based on the severity of the case. At some instances, drivers can also be obligated to attend alcohol rehabilitation and driving safety classes. For succeeding offenses, drivers can have their vehicles impounded; but of course, there would always be the possibility of fines and jail time.

Jameson’s last appearance on court was in 2010, for a domestic abuse case between her and the UFC brawler and boyfriend Tito Ortiz but the case was soon dismissed. Now, they are currently building a happy family together.

The iconic porn star played a great part in the porn industry in the late 1990s and became well known after she launched an Internet porn hub and had a guest hosting stint. Also, her autobiography, “How to Make Love Like a Porn Star,” became a New York Times bestseller.

Although it was a single vehicle accident and no injuries to other parties were incurred, Jameson was still required to seek legal advice from a Los Angeles accident attorney to mount a defense for her drunk driving case that resulted to several damages to the city’s property.

Just a day after Johnny Tapia’s death, another tragedy has befallen the boxing industry. Paul “the Punisher” Williams was reportedly involved in a devastating motorcycle accident.

According to reports, the former WBO welterweight champion Williams was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident on May 28 at Marietta, Georgia, just northwest of Atlanta.

Marietta police initially revealed that Williams was traveling in his modified sport motorcycle at a high rate of speed for conditioning when he struck an embankment. However, succeeding reports said that according to William’s manager, George Peterson, the boxer tried to avoid a possible collision with another vehicle but he ended up getting thrown out from his big bike.

Witnesses said that Williams landed on his back and head upon being thrown from his motorcycle and he was said to be currently unable to move his lower limbs.

Last Wednesday, Williams underwent a surgery to protect the upper half of his spine. Nevertheless, it is more likely that that boxer will be paralyzed from his waist down with the  severe injuries he sustained from the accident.

Supposedly, the 30-year-old boxer was scheduled to fight Saul Alvarez on September 15, but the event has been cancelled due to the said incident.

At present, it is not yet certain whether Williams could fight again. In an interview, Williams’ manager said that he and his team are not yet thinking about that matter. For the time being, their main focus remains on the medical procedures that the boxer is going through, and they are hoping that Williams could get back on his feet soon after.

Williams was once considered as one of the top ten best pound-for-pound fighters in the world with wins over several well-respected fighters. Therefore, a Los Angeles motorcycle attorney here is in deep regret since he has been a witness on how a great fighter Williams was during his entire career. Hopefully, the said accident would not put an early end to Williams’ promising career on the ring.

LA Dodgers’ James Loney Sued Over a Los Angeles Car Accident

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ star, James Loney, is now being sued for a car accident that got him hospitalized way back in November last year.

The lawsuit was filed by Mid-Century Insurance Company, claiming that Loney caused the car accident that occurred last November in Los Angeles.

Loney was involved in a car accident last November 14, wherein he was arrested while being treated at a hospital.

According to the initial reports released by authorities regarding the said incident, Loney seems to be under the influence of intoxicating substance during the accident. Allegedly, he swerved into a Toyota car and then rear-ended a Mercedes and a Mini, causing a car pileup.

During Loney’s arrest, police said that the baseball player was acting so strange that he even got to the point of breaking the breathalyzer tool that was being used by police officers conducting his alcohol test. In fact, Loney didn’t even know the actual date of the accident when he was asked by police.

Police said that Loney’s toxicology test surprisingly came back negative. The case was subsequently transferred to the LA County Attorney’s Office.

Probably, the authorities, as well as the insurance company, already found sufficient proof of Loney’s negligent driving for them to file necessary legal action. Consequently a lawsuit seeking for $30,506.79 worth of damages was filed against Loney.

Most often, car accidents occur as a result of other people’s negligent behaviors or misconduct, just like in Loney’s case when he created a road mishap as a result of him driving under the influence. Fortunately for him, many personal injury lawyers are willing to support Loney in his case.

In U.S. when it comes to personal injury claims, car related catastrophes are among the most common reasons why people resort to filing a claim. According to information gathered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a person will be more likely to become a victim during a car accident when negligent drivers are within striking distance.
